Philanthropists
The American Heritage Dictionary defines philanthropy
as the effort/inclination to increase the well-being
of humankind, as by charitable aid or donations; love
of humankind in general; such as an activity or institution,
intended to promote human welfare.
The
word "philanthropy" comes from Greek.
The root word "anthrop" means "human"
while "phil" or "philo" is aligned
with "love." As such, philanthropy is
a gesture of an organization's love for humanity.
In practice, philanthropy has the goal of influencing
the well-being of humankind through charitable efforts
and the act of giving to the community.
