New York Philanthropist :: Our Mission, Giving Back

Our Mission, Giving Back

Business is business…we all know this. But what opens our eyes and allows us to recognize a true philanthropic spirit is a clear dedication to make “giving back” less of a fashion statement and more of a truly genuine effort to improve the lives of others. Whether it is through educational grants, direct support, or a wide range of other philanthropic avenues, these individuals, families and foundations/organizations have displayed a tremendous track record of success and a real focus on giving back through their accumulated wealth. This is how one truly makes their money work for them and others.

The word "philanthropy" comes from Greek. The root word "anthrop" means "human" while "phil" or "philo" is aligned with "love." As such, philanthropy is a gesture of an organization's love for humanity. In practice, philanthropy has the goal of influencing the well-being of humankind through charitable efforts and the act of giving to the community. Philanthropy is therefore not new, but in today’s tougher times, it is more important than ever. The number of applicable philanthropic causes has unfortunately risen to epic levels.

With our website, we look to acknowledge the tremendous philanthropic efforts of a variety of New York-based individuals, families and foundations. In addition, we want to draw attention to the many foundations that have been created to assist the underserved both in the US and overseas. More regionally, we also included a charity list that allows interested parties to first identify and then make direct connections with whatever entities they choose to show particular interest in.

With this website, we do not ever look to promote one particular cause over another. Our information is presented in a strictly impartial manner, specifically for this purpose.
